Day 4 • Sarria to Portomarin – First Camino walking day • 15.42 Miles

Camino day 1 was a great start to the journey. We think everyone has learned not only so much about Spain, but so much about each other, and how much we LOVE the food in the hotels.
We woke up and enjoyed some room temperature eggs and bacon in the hotel. The coffee was the best part, and although Matt has never liked it, Maya somehow got him to drink and enjoy it. Today we walked about 14 miles, but time went by as if it were 5 miles. We learned that having a great group of people to walk with really made the day easier. The hardest days are still to come, but none of them would matter if we couldn’t get through this first day.
The scenery was incredible. Every town and rolling hill was straight from a picture book. The chirping birds and mooing cows made it so much more immersive. We felt like real pilgrims. Some of us got lost, but all of us ended up finding ourselves in the outdoors and with the other pilgrims. From Avery’s foot incident, to pigeons destroying the restaurant, we loved spending time getting to know each other. We had a great day and are excited for the rest of the walk!
¡Buen Camino!
