Day 1 • Departure from Colorado
The group left at 10:45am from Denver and will fly to Dallas before their flight to Madrid.
Waking up at 3 am MST wasn’t easy but made things all the more funny. Throughout the day, traveling through customs in Madrid all the way to León, we observed not only incredible beauty but hilarity. Getting recorded solving a Rubik’s cube (Quinn), holding a woman’s hand on the plane (Zach), “how old is that wall… old I guess” (Maya), and general funny-ness of meals.
Yet throughout this our minds traveled to one corner of the Wesleyan quadrilateral, tradition. Throughout the day we observed many different traditions from being picked up from the airport with a friendly smile to not tipping for meals. One that stuck out was the burials of bishops and other important figures at the Burgos Cathedral. Housing the final resting places of bishops from the 1100-2006 from Burgos. Each bishop had an important role in building the cathedral.
In many ways we are like the bishops (which seems dark). Each one of us plays an important role in each other’s lives to help build up our own cathedrals. One way that we have found to build each other’s cathedrals is through humor and a general good spirit. We are also taking part in building a bigger cathedral by participating in walking the Camino de Santiago, which is one thousand years in the making.
