What is the type of music that you can expect to sing with the Adult Choir?
The choir sings sacred music, gospel, meaningful music that is more spiritual than religious. Music varieties ranging from traditional to light rock. Variety is the name of the game with our adult choir.
The choir seems like a big commitment?
The choir meets every Wednesday night, between late August and June. However, Charles Wesley Adult Choir does not sing every week. Some months they only sing twice. Never more than three times a month. Many of our members travel so they sing when they are in town.
Does the choir always wear robes?
The short answer is no. Many Sundays the choir does wear robes but there are several times a year that the choir does not wear robes.
Are there other things to know about the choir?
The choir is almost a church within itself. We worship together, we have our own chaplain. We pray together, celebrate birthdays, laugh, retreat together, and eat together many times. We occasionally do outreach events. It is a terrific experience and very rewarding.
What can I expect if I would sing in the choir?
The adult choir of St. Andrew meets every Wednesday evening from 7:15 -9:00 pm. There is childcare available with one weeks notice by calling the church office. We do a wide variety of music. We do not sing every Sunday. There are currently about 130 singers in the choir.
The choir seems large. Is there room for more people?
The choir loft is flexible. It currently comfortably seats 135 people. The choir averages about 110 at a rehearsal and 105 at a service. We have room to grow!
Is there an audition for the choir?
The choir is not auditioned. The choir is made up of people that can carry a tune but have almost no choral experience. Other choir members can music a little, some can read music well and some have degrees in music. If you are not sure about your voice the director (Mark) can help find the right part for you.
What if I occasionally travel or have to miss?
The choir has two section leaders for every section. (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass). You can notify your sectional leader of an absence. There is also a sign-out board in the choir room that you can sign out on a Sunday or Wednesday.
Is there a good time to join the choir?
Anytime is a good time to join. We work on music 4-5 weeks ahead of the time that the music is presented. You will find the choir to be warm, fun and a musically rewarding experience
